Redefining Damage Assessment: Rosina Smith on AI and Multi-Peril Insights

January 20, 2025

We recently caught up with Rosina Smith, Chief Product Officer at McKenzie Intelligence Services, who shared insights on the importance of multi-peril damage assessments and the role of their GEO platform. As natural catastrophes like hurricanes involve multiple perils, such as wind and flood damage, MIS’s assessments help insurers differentiate between these causes, enabling them to make informed decisions based on policy coverage.

Rosina also discussed the integration of AI in MIS’s damage assessment process, highlighting how it accelerates evaluations and enhances knowledge-sharing across events. Despite the speed and efficiency AI offers, she emphasised that human intelligence remains crucial, as it brings accuracy, adaptability, and consistency, particularly in complex or unique scenarios. In her view, AI serves as an additional pair of eyes, enhancing rather than replacing the expertise of MIS’s team, ensuring that damage assessments are both swift and precise.
