Empathy Launches LifeVault Legacy Planning Platform in Canada with Serenia Life
Empathy, the leading technology platform transforming how families prepare for and navigate life’s most difficult moments, today announced the launch of its digital legacy planning platform, Empathy LifeVault™ in Canada, coming first-to-market with Serenia Life, a leading member-based life insurer. LifeVault provides a secure platform for legacy planning, making it possible for users to create and manage legally valid documents like Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Advance Care Directives.
In April, Empathy released The Hidden Barriers to the Great Wealth Transfer Report, which detailed the critical barriers blocking families from effectively preparing legacy plans. The data found that many families lack the documents required for a smooth transition. For example:
– Only a third of Canadian families have formal estate plans (33%), and even less have financial plans (29%) in place
– More than half (52%) of Canadian families say existing documents are incomplete, outdated, or simply unfindable
– Over 1 in 4 of Canadian families simply rely on informal or verbal plans, which offer no legal protection and are not formally documented anywhere
“At Empathy, we’re dedicated to supporting families through life’s hardest moments,” said Empathy Co-Founder and CEO Ron Gura. “We support millions of Canadian and U.S. policyholders through partnerships with leading financial institutions and insurers, and we’re proud to now offer LifeVault to families across Canada. We are honoured to bring it to market as we expand our partnership with Serenia Life.”
Empathy LifeVault is an intuitive platform designed to help individuals organize and safeguard essential estate and financial documents, reflecting a broader shift toward technology-enabled planning that helps families prepare for complex life transitions and protect their loved ones’ assets through:
– The ability to create estate planning documents from the convenience of home
– Secure, centralized storage and seamless sharing of financial information and essential documents, including province-specific estate documents like Wills, Trusts, and Healthcare Directives
– Helpful tips and guidance to support conversations around legacy planning with family
– Integration with life insurance benefits for ease of access
“We are thrilled to partner with Empathy yet again to make end-of-life planning even easier for our members,” said Angela Ricci, Chief Marketing Officer at Serenia Life. “As a life insurance organization, Serenia Life knows firsthand how difficult the loss of a loved one can be, both emotionally and practically. Having a digital ‘vault’ to create and store important documents, like a Will or Power of Attorney, means one less challenge for loved ones navigating their grief.”
This announcement builds on Empathy’s strong momentum in Canada, where it already partners with leading financial institutions and insurers including Serenia Life, BMO, iA Financial Group, Equitable, and TD. LifeVault’s entrance into the market extends care beyond bereavement support to help Canadians plan and proactively protect what matters to them most. For the first time, Canadian financial institutions and insurers can access a single, integrated platform combining loss support and estate planning, purpose-built for enterprise.
