Franklin Mutual Insurance Group Streamlines Underwriting and Inspections with the Betterview Platform by Nearmap
Franklin Mutual Insurance Group (FMI), a respected property and casualty insurer serving communities in the Northeast, has partnered with Nearmap, a leading provider of property and location intelligence for insurers, to enhance its underwriting accuracy and inspection efficiency through the Betterview platform. With a focus on modernizing risk assessment, FMI will leverage high-resolution aerial imagery and AI-driven property insights to make faster, more informed decisions across its portfolio.
By integrating the Betterview by Nearmap platform into its underwriting workflow, FMI gains access to timely, location-specific data that helps identify high-risk properties, eliminate unnecessary field inspections, and improve consistency in underwriting decisions. This strategic shift is expected to reduce operational costs and support the company’s expansion into new states with confidence and clarity.
“We’re excited to partner with Nearmap to take our property intelligence strategy to the next level,” said Matthew McCauley, VP of Underwriting at Franklin Mutual Insurance. “With Betterview, we can quickly visualize property conditions, validate exposures, and focus our inspection resources where they’re truly needed. This not only enhances underwriting efficiency—it also supports our broader mission to protect policyholders with smarter, more efficient insurance solutions.”
Since adopting the Betterview platform, FMI has analyzed more than 75,000 policies, enabling underwriters to detect and act on previously unavailable information. In one example, aerial imagery revealed abandoned vehicles and a roofless barn—critical exposures which might be missed during an in-person inspection—highlighting the importance of scalable, accurate visual intelligence.
“Franklin Mutual Insurance’s commitment to innovation is a great example of how insurers can use aerial imagery and AI to drive measurable results,” said David Tobias, chief product officer at Nearmap. “We’re proud to support FMI in delivering better protection and value to their customers through the Betterview platform.”
FMI plans to expand its use of the Betterview platform to include additional data layers such as roof age and commercial lines in the coming year.
