Janus Assurance Re Enters Marine Cyber Market with Dedicated Insurance Programme
Janus Assurance Re has announced the launch of a specialty marine cyber insurance program designed to address the unique and growing cyber risks faced by the maritime industry.
As the maritime sector becomes increasingly dependent on digital systems for navigation, cargo management, and port operations, the exposure to cyber threats has grown significantly. Traditional marine insurance policies often exclude or inadequately cover cyber-related losses, leaving a critical gap in protection for shipowners, operators, and cargo interests.
Janus Assurance Re’s new program is specifically designed to fill this gap, offering comprehensive coverage that addresses the intersection of maritime operations and cyber risk. The program covers a broad range of cyber incidents including ransomware attacks, data breaches, system failures caused by malicious code, and cyber-induced physical damage to vessels and cargo.
Key features of the program include:
– Coverage for cyber-induced physical damage to hull and machinery
– Protection against cargo loss or damage resulting from cyber incidents
– Business interruption coverage for cyber-related operational disruptions
– Liability coverage for third-party cyber incidents
– Crisis management and incident response support
“The maritime industry is at a critical juncture where digital transformation is accelerating, but cyber risk management has not kept pace,” said a spokesperson for Janus Assurance Re. “Our new program bridges this gap by providing tailored coverage that understands both the maritime and cyber risk landscapes.”
The program is available to a wide range of maritime risks including ocean cargo, hull and machinery, marine liability, and port operators. It is designed to work alongside existing marine insurance programs, either as a standalone policy or as an endorsement to existing coverage.
Janus Assurance Re has partnered with leading cyber risk assessment firms to provide policyholders with access to pre-loss risk management services, including vulnerability assessments and crew training programs focused on cyber hygiene.
The program is now available through select marine insurance brokers and managing general agents.
