MAPFRE Economics joins elite group of experts to prepare European Central Banks macroeconomic projections
MAPFRE Economics, MAPFRE’s research arm, will be the only research department from a Spanish insurance company to participate in the European Central Bank’s (ECB) Survey of Monetary Analysts (SMA), a key part of the market intelligence gathering process.
The ECB staff conducts this survey based on opinions from more than 70 companies in the financial sector. And in the next edition, MAPFRE will be one of only four European insurance companies to participate.
The SMA gathers insights from the financial sector on monetary policy and economic activity through a structured and regularly updated survey. Its key objective, as emphasized by the ECB, is to “gather regular, comprehensive, structured, and systematic information on market participants’ expectations.”
The participants in the SMA share their views on economic activity, market conditions, interest rates, and inflation, among other variables. The survey has been conducted since June 2021, following a pilot project launched in 2019.
In 2025, MAPFRE Economic Research celebrates 10 years of rigorous analysis of economic activity and the many variables that influence it, as well as in-depth studies of the insurance industry, worldwide.
In addition, 2024 marked the launch of the MAPFRE Economics Observatory, in collaboration with El Confidencial. This initiative will continue until 2025, with contributions
from top experts.
