Mongoose AI today launched a new category of governed AI agents purpose-built for health plans, alongside an oversubscribed seed extension co-led by Vertical Venture Partners (VVP). The platform is already in production and implementation with a growing roster of customers across the health plan ecosystem, with workflows spanning employer, broker, member and provider services. The seed extension included Overstory Partners, Connecticut Innovations as well as a roster of strategic healthcare executives onto the company’s cap table, including a cohort of former and current chief information officers and customer-experience executives from national and regional health plans.

The launch positions Mongoose AI as the AI Experience Layer for payers — a single governed platform where AI agents execute work across every customer interaction and every operational workflow behind it.

Architected for Payers, Built AI-Native

Mongoose AI’s architecture was built AI-native, under Chief Technology Officer Scott Johnston, a 17-year Google leader who previously created Google Drive, Meet, and Chat. The platform’s governed agents sit above existing systems — payers own and manage the data, and leverage Mongoose AI to create agentic experiences from the front-door to the back-office, without rebuilding infrastructure or replacing existing investments.

The architecture is PHI-free by design at the experience layer; agents act on protected information only within a workflow, under each plan’s existing access controls. The company has eight patent candidates queued covering the governed-agent runtime and the AI Experience Layer architecture, providing better customer experiences while lowering costs.

The Seed Extension

The oversubscribed seed extension included Vertical Venture Partners, Overstory Partners and Connecticut Innovations, with participation from strategic investors. The financing materially expanded Mongoose AI’s Advisory Council, adding Executive Investors with senior operating experience from some of the largest health plans. The funding will accelerate go-to-market against the U.S. payer market and expand the engineering team building the AI Experience Layer.
