MS Transverse Receives A+ Credit Rating Upgrade from A.M. Best

June 25, 2025

MS Transverse Insurance Group (“MS Transverse”), the leading hybrid fronting carrier, is pleased to announce that A.M. Best has upgraded the company’s Financial Strength Rating (FSR) to A+ (Superior) from A (Excellent), in line with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co.’s (“Mitsui Sumitomo”) group rating.

The acquisition of MS Transverse by Mitsui Sumitomo was completed in January 2023. Since then, MS Transverse finished 2024 as the largest hybrid fronting insurer by gross written premiums in the United States. The company was also awarded Fronting Carrier of the Year for the third time in four years at the 2025 Program Manager Awards.

This upgrade reflects A.M. Best’s recognition of MS Transverse’s strategic importance to and alignment with Mitsui Sumitomo, as well as the strategic backing and oversight provided by its parent company, MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., a global insurance and financial services group.

Dave Paulsson, CEO of MS Transverse, commented: “This rating upgrade is a significant milestone and a testament to the strength of our business model, the quality of our partnerships, and our disciplined approach to risk management. The upgrade reflects the strategic importance of MS Transverse to the group’s strategy, and we remain committed to delivering long-term value to our MGA partners, reinsurers, and policyholders.”

“MS Transverse has become a key part of our global strategy, serving as a dynamic platform for growth in the MGA and fronting insurance market,” said Hiro Morimoto, Director Senior Executive Officer, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Chairman and CEO, MSIG Holdings (U.S.A.) Inc. “We are thrilled to see MS Transverse’s role within Mitsui Sumitomo recognized through this rating upgrade and look forward to supporting its continued expansion.”

As a hybrid fronting company, the MS Transverse team leverages its deep underwriting expertise to support a growing portfolio of program business across a broad range of property and casualty lines.
